The young company Swiss Shrimp, its headquarters in the canton of Aargau, offers something unique: having “constructed” a small sea in the middle of Switzerland, Managing Director Rafael Waber and his team run a sustainable shrimp breeding operation in Rheinfelden. After completing a successful pilot phase, the young company was looking for a suitable site in 2015. On the premises of Schweizer Salinen AG in the canton of Aargau, Swiss Shrimp finally found what it was looking for. Today the company benefits from a strong location partnership: to heat the water used for shrimp breeding, Swiss Shrimp uses the excess heat from production at Schweizer Salinen. The salt extracted on site is used for the salt-water mixture. Through the shrimp farm, the young company is breaking new ground; many things are having to be rethought and developed from scratch.

To help the company find suitable partners, Aargau Services connected Swiss Shrimp AG with the Hightech Zentrum Aargau. The technology center has assisted the young company in developing the packaging for transporting fresh shrimp by post. The next goal for Swiss Shrimp? That anyone craving shrimp will immediately think of Swiss Shrimp.
