With stained glass windows that are famous throughout Europe, Königsfelden Monastery has been the shining jewel of Windisch for 700 years.
The Habsburgs' commemorative site and power base
The church windows of Königsfelden Monastery are among the finest specimens of late medieval stained glass in the whole of Europe. The church and double monastery were founded as a commemorative site for the Habsburg dynasty by the widow of the German King Albrecht I of Habsburg, who was murdered in 1308. A selected programme of guided tours, events, workshops, Habsburg culture trips and audiovisual guides breathes new life into this historic setting.
