Fiona Tan

Rise and Fall
30 January  − 18 April 2010

With Rise and Fall the Aargauer Kunsthaus presents the first comprehensive exhibition of Dutch artist Fiona Tan in Switzerland. Her recent photographic works and video pieces revolve around issues of identity and belonging as well as remembering and forgetting.
Fiona Tan’s contribution to this year’s Venice Biennale at the Dutch Pavilion drew a great deal of attention. Now the Swiss public will for the first time have the opportunity to survey the work of this artist in a large-scale exhibition at the Aargauer Kunsthaus which brings together Fiona Tan’s most recent work in photography and film, as well as selected drawings.

Hugo Suter

Photographs 1969-2009
30 January - 18 April 2010

Hugo Suter stands out among Swiss artists for his love of experimentation, as his artistic output is characterised by the use of a wide variety of media. Yet the fact that photography is key to this experimentation and plays an important role within the artist’s oeuvre is not common knowledge, a deficit the Aargauer Kunsthaus sets out to address by devoting an exhibition specifically to Suter’s photographs.

Abstractions II

Non-Representative Tendencies in the Collection
30 January - 1 August 2010

The Aargauer Kunsthaus owns a large collection of non-representative art from the beginning of the 20th century to the present. The second installment of an exhibition series, "Abstractions II" focuses on the issue of artistic form vacillating between rigid structure and free-flowing form.

CARAVAN 1/2010: Nathalie Bissig

Series of exhibition of young art
30 January - 18 April 2010

At the Aargauer Kunsthaus Nathalie Bissig presents a selection of
intricate, filigree-like drawings which have developed intuitively
and spontaneously under the hands of the young draughtswoman and
photographer. Fascinated with the masterworks by Caspar Wolf and
John Henry Fuseli, she is looking to juxtapose her most recent works
with selected works from the collection of the Aargauer Kunsthaus.

Anniversary 2010

The year 2010 is a major anniversary year for the Aargauer Kunsthaus, as we celebrate three milestones at once: the 150-year anniversary of the Aargauischer Kunstverein, the 50-year anniversary of the Aargauer Kunsthaus as well as the 15-year anniversary of the Aargauer Kunsthaus’s Art Education department. A number of events are planned to mark the occasion, among them a festive Gala, a grand Kunsthaus Fest, several fascinating special exhibitions, and the launching of Switzerland’s first Junior Art Association.
