The Aargauische Kunstverein (Aargau Art Society) was founded in 1860 with the aim of building up a collection of Swiss art, inaugurating a museum, and generally promoting an understanding of fine art. To this very day, the society influences the fate of the art collection and the exhibition activities – and will continue to do so.
The collecting activities of the Aargauische Kunstverein are also supported by the Society of Friends of the Aargauische Kunstsammlung.
Thanks to its large number of dedicated members, the Aargau Art Society was in a position to co-finance the recent extension to the Kunsthaus.
Members not only support the Kunsthaus, they also have the advantage of free admission to the Aargauer Kunsthaus and 15 other art institutions in Switzerland.
Reductions on the price of catalogues and participation in art trips are some of the other advantages enjoyed by members of the Kunstverein.
