The conventThe church was originally enclosed by a quadrangle of monastic buildings on either side. The Franciscan monastery lay to the north (the reconstructed foundation has now been made visible); only the building housing the archives and the vault of the treasury escaped demolition in 1869. To the south, parts of the convent still exist, as is the small hostelry with various wings projecting to the west. These buildings were reconstructed or drastically altered under Bernese rule, as for instance the Landschreiberei (local records office) with its striking stair tower and Renaissance doorway.
