Permanent exhibition

Königsfelden Convent is a building of outstanding historic importance in the Canton of Aargau. The Habsburg Double Convent was dissolved in 1528 by the Bernese during the course of the Reformation. Services were still held in the church choir while the nave was used as a storage area.

The church underwent thorough renovation between 1891 and 1893 and again between 1982 and 1986. Today, it is open to the public and is often used to host events. With around 10,000 visitors annually, Königsfelden is one of the most frequently visited historic buildings in the Canton of Aargau.

Apart from the ecclesiastical architecture and stained glass windows, there is very little remaining of the original fittings.
The only wall paintings to have been preserved are visible above the apex of the choir arch. They show Christ as Pantocrator accompanied by the symbols of the four Evangelists.

In the nave a black marble cenotaph reminds us of the Habsburg burial places while a row of modern medieval tombs of the Habsburg nobility and the Bernese bailiffs adorn the side walls.
